As it's International Women's Day, we thought we'd take this as an opportunity to introduce the team of women behind Humphries & Begg.Humphries & Begg is made up of a very small team of women who are naturally multi-skilled.
We work across a range of areas to keep the business ticking along, with 8 children between us, ranging in age from just 1 to 14 years old, we are a busy tribe of working mums. Our usual working hours at H&B are 9am - to 3pm to fit within the school day and work is flexible across school holidays to accommodate everyone’s family’s needs.
Meet Alice: "I grew up in Somerset and my big inspirations were my grandmother who was a model in the 50’s, always very glam and stylish & my dad, an architect, who taught me a lot about good design. I had two brilliant art teachers at school and I couldn’t get enough of the art rooms where I formed some of my oldest friendships. After school I headed to Falmouth College of Art to do an art foundation course. An incredible year of first freedom and fun. I then took a year out, moved to London and travelled to India for the first time. On my return I went to study fashion at Middlesex University - a mad and very intense three years. I then moved to West London, started my first market stall and worked in The Cloth Shop on Portobello Road for 6 years. I met my other half Robbie Humphries in 2010 and we travelled to India within 3 months of meeting, launching Humphries & Begg on our return. It took many different forms before I relaunched it in 2017, and here we are today, living in Stroud with two young children - how times have changed!
"Meet Penny: "I trained in woven textiles and have always worked with small brands in the textile or fashion industry. After moving to Stroud a couple of years ago I lucked out that this was where Humphries & Begg were based too and began working with them. I take care of the day-to-day operations at H&B HQ and lovingly pack all your orders. When I’m not at work I’m outdoors with my kids and friends or in the kitchen making something from scratch."
Meet Kate: "With a background in retail and PR, I am the only member of the team to work remotely from my home in Bruton, Somerset - I moved here from my home city of London 8 years ago. When I'm not working or herding small children around, you'll find me rifling through the local charity shops, in the garden or curled up with a good book, if I can be persuaded to sit down for 5 minutes… I look after the marketing side of things & the back end of our online retail site."
Meet Rebecca: "After running my own independent retail business and with a background in fashion and textiles, I am now based at the Humphries & Begg Shop and HQ in Stroud. I love being able to walk into work everyday - I’m a such mega fan of our lovely town and all the wonderful and sometimes weird culture that it offers! Find me at gigs, in the garden or on the netball court. My varied role at Humphries & Begg covers a range of areas but with a main focus on garment production."
